Once I was a man...Today I am a fish.

So, now that I'm through the initial shock and amazement phase, (and the bruises from pinching myself have begun to heal) I can talk about this new job. I'm designing for a production firm located in Sandy called 8fish. I'm working with a crew of amazing artists and enjoying every minute.

The firm works with a wide variety of clients, so I'm always working on something new. I'm constantly challenged there, and I feel like I'm already accomplishing a lot. Even the mundane task of backing up files gives a sense of fulfillment thanks to a quirky (albeit useful) booking system. I really like working with the people there and hope to stay a long, long time.

A site to be seen!

Hooray! I finally have a website! I spent months and months mucking around with Flash, trying to learn ActionScript and dinking around with fancy schmancy interface designs. Finally I just said "to heck with it all" (yes, those were my exact words) and just did a nice simple design using html, frames and css. You can see it here.

My decision to finally kick-start the process came when a job opportunity popped up and I found that I needed something to promote myself. I already interviewed and got the job, and I'll post more about it when my pangs of utter shock and disbelief wear off. For now, I'll just say it's a really cool job and I'm stoked!

I've also built a really sweet self-branding scheme. In a strangely pleasant sort of irony, I'm kind of let down by the fact that only one firm got to see this before I was hired—not that I'm complaining, it's just that I had hoped more people would get to see it—so I'll post it as soon as I have a chance to photograph it.

The name's Tenney... Warren Tenney

So I travelled half-way across the country to Madison, WI for my brother's wedding and what should I find? There, next to the capital was nothing other than the Tenney Plaza. There I was, tux and all. I couldn't resist. Action hero!

Somehow I thought being a big fat guy would spoil the action hero effect, but at least this way you know I actually have to dodge the bullets as opposed to relying on the bad guys being really bad shots. Take that, James Bond!

New design in the running

I've just put Witch Hunt into the running. You should be able to start voting in about 5 days or so. Again, if the link below says 'Pending approval' the voting hasn't started yet. If it gives a final score, the voting is over.

Witch Hunt - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

If you think the shirt is so good that you will want to buy it, make sure to check the little box labeled "i'd buy it" before you pick a score.

Another line cast into the wind.

Well, the Peppermint dragon didn't do as well as expected. Final score was 2.10 so it's likely this will not be printed there. Thanks to all who voted. I will probably take this design elsewhere to see if it's wanted, but I think Threadless gets some exclusivity for a while so they can decide whether or not to use the design. It might be a few months before I can push this at another shop.

I suppose the death of the Peppermint Dragon could be attributed to the fact the Threadless already has a dragon design in stock:
Dragon Flavor - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

Still the design train moves on. At the risk of making it look like Threadless is my only gig, (which it's not, I've still never sold anything there) here's another one I've been working on. It's up for critiques, so go tear it to shreds:

I also thought I might announce that I have a full website coming together now. This will take some doing, because I'm not in a position to hire a developer, so I have to learn to program by myself. I used to program using html, css, and some very rudimentary JavaScript a few years ago, only to find that my skills there are becoming outdated. So I'm checking out Flash, (which I've had forever, but rarely used) frames, more JavaScript and sIFR.

By the way, if anyone knows anything about Flash and would be willing to answer some questions for me I would appreciate your help. Tutorials on Flash have been sort of unhelpful. I understand how the application works, but I haven't been able to figure out how to incorporate a flash element into a website once it's done. I'm also looking for some sort of centralized reference for ActionScript 3.0.

I know, most blogs you read may give helpful tips for things in order to make it "interesting" and to encourage people to "want to read" it, but not mine. Nope. I'm going to let you, the readers, provide all the helpful tips here. It just my way of zigging where others zag.

The Prodigal Blogger has returned!

Wow! It's been a long time since I've posted here! I suppose I've sort of let this blog slip through the cracks because nobody seems to be interested in it. Not that I really blame them. At any rate, for the few who are (or perhaps were) interested here's something I'm doing now.

The Peppermint Dragon - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

It's a new threadless design. click the picture to go to see it. When the voting starts you can vote on it, which will increase its chances of actually becoming a t-shirt, so please do. If the status line says 'pending approval', then the voting hasn't started yet. If there's a score shown, then the voting is over. voting lasts for about a week.

Great Guerilla Advertising!!!

Thanks to a class assignment I've been working on, I've been having sort of a guerilla advertising fetish lately. I found this great campaign the other day and thought everyone should see this! How much do you wanna bet this was inspired by Wallace and Gromit?
